“We are not only sisters, but best friends,” Windy said, so it was especially important that they closely coordinate their plans. With two weddings to plan, it was clear that “My Mom was going to need some help.” Windy has lived in Wilmington for 11 years, and Joanne’s husband Matt Kingston is also from here, so both couples decided to have
their weddings in the Port City.
Joanne and Matt debated doing a tropical destination wedding, but ultimately decided to stay in Wilmington
to make it easy for their large families to attend.
Both sisters chose Pamela Jenkins as their planner, and tackled the first big task: Setting the dates.
Windy and Tony are college football fans, so “We were not going to get married during football season.” Early
August avoided the season’s kickoff.
Joanne and Matt chose the first week of November.
Grace Methodist, one of Wilmington’s fine old downtown churches, is one of relatively few congregations
that welcome weddings by non-members.
And, of course, Windy and Joanne served as honor attendants at each other’s weddings.
