We just adore the sun and the surf, which we don't get a lot of in Vermont. Tim Collins, Stowe, Vt.

      Kate’s family had been vacationing on the Carolina Coast for years, and “had a blast” at Holden Beach last year.
    “It sounded just perfect to us,” Tim said. Their wedding “was as much about getting the families together for a week-


 		  long vacation on the beach.”
    Getting married on a Wednesday meant it was easier to get vendors during this region’s busiest wedding season. Planning was long-distance by phone, web and “the seat of our pants.”

Holden Beach
and the other beaches of Brunswick County face south, which means both sunrise and sunset are visible over the Atlantic Ocean.

Close to the Gulf Stream, seawater is 80 degrees or warmer during September. Daytime highs average in the mid-80s in these last days of summer

Kate and Tim
met while working in the same Vermont restaurant, but it took several false starts and three years before they became a couple. They got married after six years together.
    They chose a dawn wedding so their families could spend a special day together. On more traditional schedules, “You don’t get to see her all day,” Tim said. “A small ceremony is nice so you can interact with everybody all day.”
    Later in the day, while tossing a football on the beach with a nephew, Tim lost his wedding ring in the surf. Made by a jeweler friend, the ring incorporated his grandmother’s wedding band. He was distraught at the loss.
    With help from a local rental agency, Tim found a metal-detector hobbyist, Philip Alexander, who came from Shallotte and found the lost ring under 7 inches of sand.

A Caribbean steel band from Myrtle Beach, SC provided entertainment.
