Fort Fisher
is a unique location on North Carolina’s coast. Not only does it have the only natural rock outcropping -- mostly hidden by the artificial seawall built to protect the historic site form erosion -- but it is also has the only wooded area directly on the seashore anywhere in the Tar Heel State.
Those trees have made Fort Fisher a favorite for romantic outdoor weddings. On Sept. 1, 2006, Amanda McDaniel married Brent Holloman in the grove, which is part of the State

    Historic Site.
A reception followed at the N.C. Aquarium, just a few hundred yards down U.S. 421.

A different kind of history was made two decades ago next spring, when the future publisher and editor of 'Cape Fear Wedding,' Kate and John Meyer, were married on May 16, 1987 on the   oceanfront at Fort Fisher. The flower girl was John's daughter Robin Meyer.
Robin is grown up now. To see her August 2006 wedding, Go to Bellamy Mansion feature.
