   Historic buildings
have become favorite venues for Wilmington weddings and receptions. The design challenge illustrated here was to unify the decorative theme between the ceremony, in the Gothic-revival First Baptist Church, and the reception. That was in the Coast Line Convention Center, a restored railroad warehouse.

The palest hint of green in hydrangea pew decorations stands out against the rich tones of wood in the church sanctuary. Larkspur in bouquets of Fujimon and mini-carnations add a touch of purple, the bride’s theme color.

   At the reception,
against a backdrop of bare brick and huge original warehouse doors, Verzaal’s Florists used dried hydrangea petals to fill the glass columns supporting the centerpiece bouquets. These feature lisianthus, stock and larkspur in purple and magenta, plus montecasino, ruscus and seeded eucalyptus. Green hydrangea petals are strewn over purple tulle brightened by mirrors, tea lights, and mini-Japanese lanterns.
