Adding Color
and Sparkle

Cape Fear Trends

Airlie Gardens’ Bottle House is the heart of the Minnie Evans Sculpture Garden. It honors the late artist who worked taking tickets at Airlie’s gate, and drew many of her mysterious, mystical pictures here.
Minnie Evans’ original visions inspired this colorful whimsy of bottles set in concrete, amid fanciful sculptures based on themes from her work.
The lavish use of color and light is echoed in many of this year’s favorite wedding dresses.
Think of splashes of bright colors on white, or washes of subtle pastels, or a thousand pinpoint flashes of reflected light. Read on ...

You have dreamed of this day since you were a little girl. You want to look like a fairy princess. And you should! And you will.
We have consulted with some experts in the bridal fashion field about current and upcoming trends. Of course, we are not encouraging you to be a slave to fashion. This is your day, your dream, your choice.
“Brides are looking for something different yet traditional, and that takes shape in a variety of ways,” says Jeanine Huggins, owner of Jeanine Marie Designs.
Janet Duncan of Bridal Mart agrees. Ms. Duncan says colors are being incorporated into bridal gowns. “Brides still want white or ivory, but with a color trim. Most popular trims are claret, navy, black, then pastels.”

Sparkling details

Sandra Leigh, owner of Brides to Babies, sees a return of detailed lace and the decline of the strapless gown. “Although brides still seem to want it, I am gladly seeing the return of a more flattering and elegant look.”
Specifically: Ms. Leigh is seeing more ‘sparkle’ in bridal dresses. “There is much more attention to detail in the beading and lace.”

Be kind to your bridesmaids! Not all figures and shapes may look good in that ‘perfect’ dress you have picked out for all of your bridesmaids. And will they ever wear it again?
A hot new trend, according to Janet Duncan of Bridal Mart, is top and bottom separates. The top half of the elegant and dazzling ensemble your bridesmaids wore at your wedding can then be paired with jeans for an awesome and so ‘in’ look in their after-the-wedding lives.

To ensure that their dresses will look good on your bridesmaids, and that they’ll be able to wear them again, choose a color, then let each one choose her own dress. Regan Lanier’s bridal party, here at Wrightsville Beach, gave the idea a dramatic flourish, with the bridesmaids all in “basic black.”
