When Jackie Schmidt and Larry Annunziato started their wedding planning, they knew they wanted their reception to have the feel of a garden. And to honor his mother, and his family’s Korean heritage, Larry wanted to incorporate bamboo as a design theme.
The couple worked with Pamela Jenkins of Pamela’s Wedding & Event Planning and Ikebana Florist, which has special expertise in Asian floral design techniques. Together, they created distinctive cylindrial containers, embellished with fresh bamboo and packed with roses to decorate the head table.

Korean Flair
included fresh bamboo trees and containers of live lucky bamboo in the cocktail area. A row of 8-foot trees created from fresh willow boughs, covered with tiny blossoms and cascading greenery and dramatically lit from below framed the reception area.
Jackie and Larry, who were college sweethearts in upstate New York, came to Wilmington when she was transferred by Verizon Wireless. Their wedding took place Oct. 7, 2006 in St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Wilmington. The reception followed in Carolina Beach.
