Brides

On April 23, 2005, Brad Hummel and Jennifer Windham were married in what is becoming a common style for a “Cape Fear” wedding.

Both live in Raleigh, and like so many other “destination wedding” couples, they chose to hold their wedding and reception at one of Wilmington’s lovely historic sites.

Brad and Jennifer used a mix of local vendors and ‘do-it-yourself’ approach to plan the wedding of their dreams.

The Bellamy Mansion at Market Street and Fifth Avenue was built just before the Civil War. After a painstaking renovation in the 1990s, it is again one of Wilmington’s showplaces. Brad and Jennifer chose the house, with its breathtaking Old South atmosphere, as their dream site.
To prepare the mansion’s garden for an open-air reception, L & L Tent and party rentals provided a tent, chairs, outdoor tables and linens. Brad said, “L&L were terrific to deal with. They

went beyond what we contracted them to do as we found ourselves needing a few more chairs, and, without hesitation, they delivered them immediately.”

Before the ceremony, Marc Siegel performed solo acoustic guitar on the mansion’s rear veranda, where the ceremony also took place. He also provided the music for the ceremony itself.
Lighthouse Beer & Wine supplied the beverages. Brad commented that Lighthouse’s owner, Jason Adams, followed up with a phone call after the wedding to make sure that the supply was adequate and all went well.
During the reception, the Raleigh band The Magic Pipers played a selection of “oldies” and dance tunes under a tent in the garden. The band was booked by Choice Entertainment.
The flowers that decorated the tables were arranged by the bride and her mother, Dora Turner. The bouquets carried by the bridal party were made by a friend of the family, Doris Davis.
The wedding photography was by Gary Allen, who mastered his photojournalistic style during years as a news photographer.
