WILMINGTON, NC –– When Donna and Jack Garland danced together for
the first time as husband and wife, it was to the old standard “Because,” most famous
in Perry Como’s 1947 recording.

Their wedding was April 19, 1947, in Des Plaines, Ill.
After 60 years, on April 28 2007, the Garlands were in North Carolina
for the wedding of grandson Dan Licursi.
Dan had a surprise ready for them, with help from disk

jockey Jason Tatum of Active Entertainment DJs.
As Perry Como crooned those old lyrics, smiles blossomed, then tears
flowed.
“I’ll cherish thee ... through light and darkness through all time
to be.”

Mr. Garland is a craftsman and he returned the favor for his grandson
Dan and his bride, Hope Bedford. He built a portable arbor for their wedding, and had it
shipped here for the ceremony on Wrightsville Beach.
