EDITOR'S NOTE for all you grooms-to-be: This is a guest commentary from The Web Guy here at Cape Fear Wedding,
where we take the "fear" out of your "Cape Fear Wedding." Sorry about any pastels or
frou-frou you'll run into here on the site. Get used to it: For the next several months, you have absolutely
nothing to say about colors.
From one guy to
another, believe me: After your wedding is over, you'd much rather have
your bride grateful for all your help than asking how you could manage
to screw up the few things you were supposed to handle.
So to help make your part of this project foolproof,
bookmark this page. Print it out. Make several copies. Keep one wherever
you keep your financial records, one in your office, another one in
your wallet. But keep them handy. And use them! For a hard copy, use our printer-friendly
version. Open the page for printing:
Up until the last couple of months, most of
the decisions are ones you and your fiancee' should be making together.
That means you don't have to fly solo just yet. Our main planning
timetable covers these steps. Check it out without losing your place
here:
Your first piece of business, aside from paying
close attention to whatever your fiancee' tells you, is to be sure you
know how to log in to the planning profile section of this site. By
the time you're reading this, she has undoubtedly signed you up, and
checked off all the products and services she'll be wanting. Go ahead,
admit you've forgotten the login and password, and ask her for them.
She'll be impressed that you're interested.
Get familiar with her list, and check out
the vendors it brings up. (They know about you, and some of them will
be sending you stuff to read. So you might as well know about them, too.) Log in to your profile:
Next, make notes on the contacts you'll have
to deal with. Write down the pertinent data so you can get in touch
with them on short notice. Be sure to get the name of a human being
at each place who is familiar with your plans, orders, measurements
and such. Even if you never need to ask for them by name, your fiancee'
will be impressed when you casually mention "Frank at the jeweler's."
Also: put that login and password here, too.
Now for the checklist. In this online version,
we've taken the liberty of supplying links to information about most of these topics. Because,
face it, most of us aren't experts on tuxedos or two-tone platinum rings before we decide to
tie the knot. If you can use all the help you can get, follow those links!
The printer version doesn't have the links, but includes a reminder
for each subject that there is a relevant resource, either on this site or in the Cape
Fear Wedding sourcebook.
Good luck, congratulations, and above all remember: DON'T PANIC.
You'll do fine.
