Non-denominational church service
Some churches won't perform wedding ceremonies for non-members.
Others will do so if the couple agrees to participate in counseling with the
minister beforehand. These counseling sessions vary in intensity and number of
sessions depending on the denomination, church, and/or minister. Nonmembers can
usually expect to pay higher fees for use of the church.
For a couple who truly need a non-denominational service, it may
be helpful to look for "non-denominational" under the "Churches" listing in a classified
directory such as the Yellow Pages. If the issue is families with widely differing
religious preferences, give some consideration to which denominations could be acceptable
to both families. Call these churches to inquire about their policies, fees, if they have
the capacity to handle the number of guests you expect, and whether they are available
on your wedding date.
Other concerns are location, parking, proximity to the reception
site, and do you find the church esthetically appealing. Once you have viewed
several prospects, consider attending a church service. This will give you a chance
to get to know the minister. It's very important to have a good rapport with the
person who's instrumental in one of the most important events of your lives. (Directory of clergy advertisers)
