Town requires permit for beach weddings

To get married on the beach at Wrightsville Beach, you need to apply for a special event permit through the parks and recreation department. Fees range from $70 for parties up to 25 people, to $300 for 1,000 or more participants.
Heels of any kind are impractical in soft sand. To be one step above barefoot, stylish sandals are entirely appropriate. This pair graced the groom at a recent summer beach wedding.

If you will have 250 or more people, you’ll need to provide portable toilets, and you must get a “Group Activity Permit.” This must be approved by the town's Board of Aldermen, which meets twice a month, so don't wait until the last minute. Approval is usually a formality, but expect the board to ask about parking for a large wedding. Parking spaces near the beach are scarce on summer weekends. It's not possible to reserve spaces.
The parks department recommends using a shuttle service to get your guests to and from the beach and avoid parking hassles. See transportation. Another option is a valet parking service. See valet parking.
To apply, write to Wrightsville Beach Parks & Recreation, P.O. Box 626, Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480, or call (910) 256-7925 for more information.
