The video interview
Wedding videographers
lead nerve-wracking lives, often having
to schedule their work with only a few weeks’ notice.
Unlike vendors considered “essential” to a wedding,
such as caterers, florists and photographers, bridal couples often think
of video professionals as an afterthought. That means many don’t book
their videographer until almost the last minute.
But, like photography, video is one of the few
parts of the wedding experience that will long outlast the event.
Many a bride and groom will discover, once they
see their videos, just how much of the wedding and reception they missed.
Many charming details may be forgotten forever if not preserved in video.
There’s no question that cost is a reason some
couples decide to skip the video. Video professionals make a significant
investment in cameras, computers and editing software, not to mention
training and experience. Skill and technology do make a difference in
the finished video.
A quality, full coverage video, professionally shot
and edited, could cost from $1,500 to $3,500. Expect your professional
video expenses to be comparable to photography. Budgeting for video early
provides more flexibility when it’s time to book the video package.
Where money truly is an issue, some videographers
recommend focusing on the part that can never be recaptured: the actual
recording of the ceremony.
The resulting “raw” video can be edited later, when
budgets aren’t so tight, into a finished, story-telling program.
Ask to see video professionals’ finished products
to help you select the video package that suits your tastes and budget.
