Topsail Island encompasses three towns: Topsail Beach, Surf City and North Topsail Beach.

About half an hour's drive northeast of Wilmington, this 27-mile-long island includes three towns. The island got its name in the 1700s, when only the topsails could be seen on ships sheltered in the deep channel behind the dunes.
The swing bridge on N.C. 50-210 crosses into Surf City, which includes the island's main business district.
Turn right, and you'll end up at Topsail Beach on the island's south end. This is a quiet town of small motels and beach cottages.
A left takes you to North Topsail Beach, which includes high-rise hotel and condominium projects. A high-rise bridge links North Topsail with the mainland towns of Sneads Ferry and Jacksonville.

Surf City allows shade tents and chairs; no candles or open flames are permitted, and no glass of any kind. For adequate parking and restrooms, the town recommends the Broadway Street public beach access. For information, contact the town clerk: P.O. Box 2475, 214 N. New River Drive, 28445; (910) 328-4131.

Topsail Beach. No permit is required. For rules and regulations, contact the police chief: 812 S. Anderson Blvd. 28445; (910) 328-4851

North Topsail Beach allows shade tents and chairs; no candles or open flames are permitted, and no glass of any kind or amplified sound. No permit is required however parking is limited so it is recommended to plan ahead to make sure your guests can be accommodated. Police Dept.: 2008 Loggerhead Court, 28445; (910) 328-0042.
