checklist
If
you're planning an outdoor wedding
or reception, the sky's the limit, but it can also be limiting if
nature decides to offer you a wedding shower.
You can guard against dampened spirits (or a searing summer sun)
with an attractive canopy or tent. Whether it's a small garden wedding
at home or a large affair in a private or public garden, a rental
company can provide for all your needs, from tent to tables to linens
to portable bars to punch bowls to champagne fountains.
(For indoor weddings, rental companies can also provide equipment
ranging from such basics as tables and chairs to more specialized touches such as archways
and portable dance floors.)
Once you have decided upon the location for your garden wedding,
contact a rental agent
as soon as you can. The agent will be able to advise you on what
size tent or canopy will be needed for the number of guests you
are planning for, how many tables and chairs will be needed, whether
a wooden dance floor should be added or artificial turf be used
to protect the lawn, and help you calculate costs and times for
delivery and set-up.
Then let your imagination soar in decorating. Cover the poles with
cascades of evergreen, ivy, flowers, or colorful streamers matching
your wedding colors.
Power supplies
If your outdoor event will be distant from a source of electricity,
don’t forget to plan for a power supply for lights, fans, public-address system, entertainment,
etc. And, of course, for heating and refrigerating food and beverages.
Don't be afraid to plan any party in the great outdoors. Our area's
mild climate, combined with the availability of portable heaters, means a garden wedding is
a possibility at virtually any time of year.
For indoor weddings, rental companies can provide equipment ranging
from such basics as tables and chairs to more specialized touches such as archways and portable
dance floors.
Often a rental agency is the best source for such essentials as dishes,
glasses, silverware and table linens. Food service equipment, sound and lighting equipment can
also be rented for your reception.
Don’t overlook other rental possibilities: some florists can supply
decorative touches such as artificial topiaries.
While planning, be sure to get specifics about
deposits, delivery and set-up arrangements. For indoor affairs, be
sure to find out whether your chosen facility permits outside rentals.
