This chart shows
the number of marriages performed in area counties, according to
state vital records. Steady growth in marriages in New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties
partly reflects strong population growth, but also increasing demand for “destination weddings.”
Onslow County is a special case because of its large Marine Corps bases.
Data for 2011 are not yet available.
* The marriage rate is calculated from the number of marriages occurring
in a county per 1,000 population. The rate shown is for 2010.
