Typical newlyweds
end up with hundreds or even thousands
of photographs from their wedding and reception. It’s not always so
easy for guests to get mementoes of the special occasion -- and of
the great party that followed.
A few years back, there was a fad of placing
disposable film cameras on each table at the reception, with the
idea that guests would use them to take candid photos of each other.
That begged the question of how the resulting
photos -- and precious few good ones were actually ever developed --
would get to far-flung guests.
The newest approach to this problem is actually
the revival of an old idea: The four-poses-for-a-dollar photo booth.
Available in several different styles, these are offered for rent,
and allow guests to get spontaneous pictures of themselves.
Familiar to anyone who’s ever spent time in a
mall, on a boardwalk or at a county fair, the old-fashioned automatic
photo booth gives each visitor a strip of three or four pictures,
taken a few seconds apart. Usually there’s room for two or three people
in the booth at a time, so the possibilities for fun are endless.
A higher-tech variation uses modern digital
cameras, with help from a human operator, and delivers a glossy color
print with four poses.
Some wedding photographers offer a different
sort of “photo booth,” which is more like a little portable studio
equipped with props and costume items like hats, shawls, fans and the
like. Guests can vamp and goof with these accessories, and a photographer
uses a professional hand-held camera to capture the moments.
Portable digital printers make it possible to
print and deliver these pictures to guests before they leave the reception.
