Getting around: Area maps
An economical alternative
for an outdoor wedding is a public park. Two of Wilmington’s showplaces, Greenfield Park
and Hugh MacRae Park, have beautiful spots for wedding ceremonies.
Greenfield Park’s Fragrance Garden, on the west side of
cypress-lined Greenfield Lake, has a lakeside gazebo. In spring, blooming azaleas
and wisteria lend spectacular colors. The space is available through the city’s Parks
& Recreation Department, 341-7852.
Also at Greenfield Park are two other attractive areas that
can be used for weddings and receptions. The amphitheater has recently been refurbished
and includes theater-style seating for ceremonies. The Rotary Wheel, a walled garden
area with a central gazebo, is suitable for ceremonies. An adjacent area can accommodate
a tent for receptions. Call the Parks office (above) for details.

Hugh MacRae, on South College Road at Oleander Drive, has a natural
amphitheater surrounding a small pond, lined with azalea bushes. A small gazebo provides a
focal point for a ceremony.
Facilities for receptions are limited. Picnic shelters can be rented
at Hugh MacRae, which is managed by New Hanover County parks, 798-7275.
New Hanover County also manages Snow's Cut Park, near Carolina Beach,
which offers water views in a wooded setting. The park is off U.S. 421 (Carolina Beach Road)
under the bridge to Carolina Beach.
