Decorating with light
A floral designer’s skills
extend beyond just flower arrangements. Think
about how other types of greenery, plant materials, containers – and light –
can create dramatic decorative effects.
Garlands of fresh greenery can liven up railings,
trellises and columns. Ask your florist about combining greens with tiny
Christmas-style lights for nighttime charm, as well as extra illumination.
Carefully arranged spotlights can add drama to larger
elements like artificial trees, topiaries, arches and arbors.
Greenery left over from bouquets and other formal
arrangements can be used to accent centerpieces or liven up bare corners of
a buffet table. Even bare branches can be beautiful, as seen in Asian-themed
flower arrangements.
Creative designers work with materials including
driftwood, seedpods and grasses.
