checklist
Computers, digital cameras and the Internet have opened up many new possibilities for wedding photography.
- Digital images
Professional-quality digital cameras now can produce images that rival those done with traditional film. But not all digital cameras are created equal, and digital photography can require special skills, especially in challenging lighting situations like a large church sanctuary.
Discuss with your photographer whether your wedding pictures will be shot on film or digitally, and how this will affect prices and delivery of prints.
- Pictures on disk
The new-media explosion has raised new issues about ownership and copyrights of creative work. Many photographers will retain ownership of digital images, and sell you only prints -- similar to the traditional practice of the photographer keeping the negatives.
Nowadays some wedding packages do include a compact disk with the photos in digital format. Some photographers are also creating slide shows and other multi-media presentation on DVD.
Don’t assume you will get digital copies of your wedding pictures unless that is specified in your contract.
- The World Wide Web
Many couples are setting up personal web sites to display their pictures. Photographers who offer this service can even supply an on-line form for friends and relatives to order reprints.
A wedding web site can also provide links to on-line bridal registries, maps and links to hotel guest-registration sites.
