When you've
chosen your wedding gown, it's time to select the intimate apparel
to wear with it. A good lingerie shop will be able to help you get both a perfect fit and the right
match to your wedding dress.
Bring an accurate description, picture or, ideally, the gown itself, when
shopping for your wedding-day lingerie. It's important to wear your intimate apparel to your gown
fittings, so don't save this part of your planning to the last minute.
Being properly fitted by a "lingerie expert" is vital. Correctly fitted
lingerie will ensure that you're looking perfect and feeling comfortable
on your wedding day.
Don’t forget to pick out a lacy garter for the groom to toss.
Other delicate accessory ideas
Crinolines have made a comeback (apparently they were never
really out of style, but most wedding gowns didn't call for them.) The crinoline adds
extra fullness to wide-skirted gowns and produces the "wedding doll" effect.
To wear under the dresses that remind one of Scarlett O'Hara, you
could choose a hoop. The hoops of today are made of comfortable
plastic, bending when you bend and sitting when you sit.
Full length slips now also come with an attached strapless bra. If
you're the right size, it does eliminate an extra garment.
Lace stockings are a nice touch, a delicate look. With a shorter
gown they complete the picture.
Satin shoes come both plain and lace covered. They are dyeable
for attendants, and come in four heights of heels from the comfortable ballerina to the
highest heels.
For hands, you can finish the effect with lace gloves, either short
or three-quarter length, depending on the length of your dress sleeve.
Wedding night and honeymoon
But after the wedding there will be other needs for less practical
garments. While shopping for lingerie, try on some sensuous negligees or peignoir ensembles
for wedding night and honeymoon.
The luxury and beauty of fine lingerie can be a bride's gift to
herself. But they can also be appropriate shower gifts. Fine lingerie shops often offer a
bridal registry.
While you’re there, you can browse through the shop for other lingerie,
perhaps to put on your registry “wish list.” Forget to be practical just this once, and try
on sensuous negligees and peignoir ensembles for your wedding night. Other items you may
consider include teddies, camisoles, tap pants, nightgowns, and coordinated panty, bra and
slip sets to wear with your honeymoon outfits.
You may also find some great gift ideas for your husband-to-be, such
as elegant silk PJs or boxers. The sort of thing he’d never think to get for himself can make
a wonderful wedding-night gift.
