Don’t do this first. The license is good for only 60 days! It may be issued in any county in North Carolina.
  • In New Hanover County, go to the Register of Deeds office at 216 N. Second St. in downtown Wilmington. The license office is in Room 2 and is open between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. (Call 341-1302 for information.)
  • For Brunswick, in the County Government Complex on old U.S. 17 west of Bolivia. (253-2690.)
  • For Pender County, the license office is at 300 E. Fremont St. in Burgaw. (259-1225.)
  • Onslow County, 109 Old Bridge St. in Jacksonville. (347-3451)
The license costs $50. No waiting period, physical exam or blood test is required. Both bride and groom must be present. Both must have the following valid identification: birth certificate, Social Security card and valid driver’s license or photo ID from the DMV.
Online application: If you are applying in New Hanover County, you can save time by submitting your application online. Then when you arrive at the Register of Deeds office, the clerk can quickly print the necessary documents with your information already included. You must still appear in person with your required ID documents within 10 days of submitting the online application.
