Thousands of people
every year move to the Wilmington area because of its attractions and appealing lifestyle. So it’s
no wonder that Wilmington has become a popular place to come to get married.
Whether because of its Old South atmosphere, historic attractions, mild
climate, or the ocean, the Cape Fear region is attracting “destination weddings.”

Out-of-town couples planning a wedding here should consider these points:
- Both bride and groom must appear in person, within 60 days of
the wedding, to get the marriage license. This may be done at
any county Register of Deeds office in North Carolina. For more

- To help manage the many logistical details, a local wedding planner or coordinator can be
indispensable. Ask yourself whether you want to deal with a dozen or more suppliers and other
professionals by long-distance. For more

- Many popular wedding and reception sites, especially those near
the ocean, are booked up far in advance. Check early -- a year
or more isn’t too early -- to avoid disappointment. For reception
site directory:
- Many hotels will offer a special rate for blocks of room reserved for wedding guests. But
because this is a prime tourist destination, make your plans well in advance to ensure rooms are

If many of your guests will be traveling, you may want to offer them information about area
attractions. For some, a Wilmington or beach wedding is a perfect excuse for a mini-vacation.
