Dance instruction
Your first dance comes only once. Will you be ready?

Maybe you were born with that fascinatin’ rhythm. Or maybe you have two left feet. Regardless of your experience or skill, you can be comfortable and confident when it’s time for your first dance together as husband and wife.
Dancing plays such a central role in wedding receptions, it can be well worth your while to enlist a professional dance instructor to help you prepare.
Think about what kind of experience you hope to have. Do you want to dazzle your guests with your skills and flashy moves? Need to prepare for that all-important dance with your father? Have your heart set on dancing to a favorite song? Do you and your fiance have different levels of skill or experience?
For a successful experience, don’t wait until the last minute. A dance studio can tailor its lessons to your specific needs, as well as to your schedule and your budget.
You may just want to join a regularly scheduled social-dance class. Or you can book private lessons for just you and your fiance. Some brides enlist their entire bridal party for instruction.
If you know the type of music you want played at your reception, or better yet the specific songs, bring along a list or a set of CDs. You may find that just a couple of sessions give you the refresher you need. Or you may prefer to book a complete course in a particular style of dance.
For a successful experience, don’t wait until the last minute. Two weeks before your wedding is too late to start. Six months in advance isn’t too early.
Most important: Don’t forget that the objective is to have fun. While you’re showing off your new skills, enjoy yourself. And don’t underestimate how dancing together can enhance your marriage.
Discuss with your DJ or band leader the sequence of songs for these first dances. A wedding coordinator can help by giving each member of the wedding their cues to join the dance.
