Changing your address
Updating paperwork and handling name changes

   Long before the bride and groom leave on their honeymoon, the paperwork needed to recognize the new alliance must be updated. Most organizations that send monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly bills or statements, such as utilities, banks and credit cards, include a change-of-address section. Just fill it out and send it back with your regular payment.

   This checklist should help.
  • Bank accounts
  • Credit cards
  • Brokerage and mutual fund accounts
  • IRA or 401(k) retirement accounts
  • Doctor and dental records
  • Auto registration
  • Driver's license
  • Insurance policies
  • Memberships (sororities/fraternities, civic clubs, professional associations, book or music clubs)
  • Magazine and newspaper subscriptions
  • Voter registration (be sure to change your address at least a month before the next election)
  • Post Office (ask for change-of-address cards and forwarding service)
   If name changes (including hyphenations) are to take place, be sure to change these records:
  • Social Security
  • Passport
  • Credit rating
  • Employment records (see your employer's human resources or personnel staff)
