Restoring an heirloom gown

headpiece
Two special items of bridal attire are often purchased hastily with less consideration of style and comfort than for price and necessity: millinery and shoes. Yet both play an important part in your day, although in quite different ways.
Take special care in choosing your headpiece and veil. They frame your face. When we envision a "radiant bride," we see her face surrounded by her headpiece and veil. They are the background in your romantic wedding portraits, so you want them to be comfortable and perfectly designed for you.
A bridal milliner will design headwear that not only enhances your face and fits your hairstyle, but complements your gown in every way. Custom designed millinery is usually no more expensive than ready-made and does not have to be ordered months in advance. The choice of materials is limitless: pearls, sequins, beads, lace. A milliner works like a hair stylist to create a flattering style especially for you.

Now let's talk about the shoes. They must be comfortable for standing, walking and dancing. Scrape the new soles on concrete so they won't be slippery and then break them in at home on the rug -- well ahead of time.
There are lots of fabric, even lace, shoes to choose from that will suit the styles of the wedding party's dresses. Most shoes can be dyed to match.
Attendants should wear the same heel heights, if possible (not too high -- it's difficult to walk naturally). And remember to take the shoes to all fittings- hemlines are measured up from the floor while you are wearing them.
It's worth repeating: buy for comfort, even if it costs a little more.
