One of the keys to a successful advertising campaign is a well-designed ad. Many business people considering advertising worry that they don't have an ad prepared, or don't have the money to pay a graphic designer. That's not a problem for Cape Fear Wedding advertisers. We offer our design expertise to our advertisers at no extra cost.

Terms & conditions

We offer free ad design for several reasons:
  • We want our clients to be successful. An unattractive or outdated ad design can cause a bride to move on to the next vendor, instead of picking up the phone or going to your website.
  • We take pride in the appearance of our book. One reason so many brides and wedding vendors have depended on Cape Fear Wedding through the years is the consistently professional, sophisticated look of our pages.
  • We can be certain the ad meets the necessary specifications for our printer to reproduce at optimum quality.
Honored by our peers: During our decades of experience in the newspaper business, the owners of Cape Fear Wedding were honored with numerous industry awards.
Kate Meyer, publisher, won multiple best-in-class awards for promotional materials and sales campaigns from the Mid-Atlantic Circulation Managers Association. This is the professional organization for daily newspaper distribution and marketing executives in the Carolinas, Virginia and Georgia.
John Meyer, editor, won a national award for redesign of a regularly appearing daily newspaper page from the Society of Newspaper Design.
We work hard to stay on top of the latest digital graphic technology and advertising trends, through diligent research and professional continuing-education courses. We can help your message stand out in today's cluttered media environment, not leave your ad looking like it's stuck in the '90s.

When we're designing an ad for a client, we try to make it compatible with the business's other, existing marketing materials. Those might include business cards, brochures and website. "Compatible" doesn't necessarily mean "identical." But expect us to ask you about your logo, fonts and colors, and photos or artwork that represent the best of your products and services.
If those other materials aren't consistent with each other, or need to be updated, we can create a new "look and feel" for your entire marketing campaign.

What to expect: We'll want to meet with you to discuss your specific marketing objectives and learn more about your business. We need to know what your central sales message is, because that's the key to a memorable, effective advertisement. If need be, we'll work with you to help define that message.
If you have a logo, photos or other graphics that need to be included in your ad, we'll need to obtain high-resolution digital files. In most cases, a graphic taken from a website will not have sufficient resolution to be acceptable for print. Better: the original images that the web versions were copied from.

We'll send a digital proof by email for your review and approval. It's the advertiser's responsibility to read the proof carefully, paying close attention to vital text details such as phone numbers, address and website name.
The planning part of the design process needs to be done far enough ahead of our print deadline that we don't have to rush. We want to take the time needed to do the best possible job for you. We also want you to have enough time to review proofs and make any needed changes.

Many of our advertisers want to use our designs in other media. We are happy to accommodate those requests, but it isn't as simple as just "sending the ad" to another publication.
Our page dimensions are different from most other publications. That means an ad designed for Cape Fear Wedding won't fit a different page format. Electronically enlarging the ad won't work for two reasons. First, the resolution won't be adequate for good reproduction. Second, the proportions will be wrong, because of differences between the height-width ratios of different page formats.

On request from clients in good standing, we will revise our ad designs to fit in other media. There is a nominal re-design charge for this service. Please call or email us for a quotation.

We can adapt an ad design for your "collateral" marketing material such as business cards, postcards and brochures. We offer this service in the interest of helping our clients present a strong, consistent brand identity. Rates for additional design services will be quoted on request.

If you want to design your own ad, or have an agency do it for you, we ask that you carefully review the specifications. Please note that we cannot be responsible for the reproduction quality of submitted ads that don't meet our specs. If you aren't clear about such technicalities as web vs. print resolution, compression ratios or bleed margins, please consult with us as early as possible. We're at your service, but would rather not be asked to work miracles right at deadline.

Ad sizes and proportions don't translate directly
between handbook and magazine page formats.
A full page in the 'Cape Fear Wedding' handbook has the same size and visual impact as a half page in magazines with larger pages. Click to open a detailed view.
